Amid much enthusiasm, religious fervour and vibrant festivity 33 departments, two Institutes and the only female dormitory Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Jagannath University (JnU) celebrated Saraswati Puja on Wednesday, one of the main religious festivals of the Hindu community.
Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, lore, culture and purity, according to scripture. Religious people believe that this goddess stays in the heart where no darkness, ignorance and evil power stays.
Although this religious festival is part of the Hindu community, the event attracts students of all religions and classes for its colorful displays and festivities. Lighting and graffiti made the campus so vibrant that undoubtedly visitors would be amazed.
The mandaps of the puja are set on the premises of the university Shanto Chattar, ground floor of New Academic Building, Science faculty, Arts building and Social science.
The celebration at the university began at 8am with anjali, the offering of tributes to the goddess, which was followed by hatekhori and distribution of prashad. Jagannath University Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury visited the different puja mandaps on the campus and exchanged greetings with teachers and students. Meanwhile Deans of faculties, JnU Central Puja Celebration Parishad leaders and Chairmen of Departments were present.
The police are on duty to make this event more successful and to maintain the festive and religious tempo with the help of JnU administration.
Pranta Das Gupta, a JnU student believes that the visitors would be amazed to see the uniqueness of every mandap.
He wished, “This festive environment might increase the sense of responsibility in people of each class more than before.”
“I pray for everyone's well fare as well as mine. I believe everyone will achieve their goal with hard work and do betterment for the country as well as the world”, said a JnU student, Partha Pratim Saha, with a happy face.
