After being closed for 14 consecutive days in the country, the popular social media Facebook was launched. After the official announcement of the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak, Facebook is opening without any kind of VPN app from noon on Wednesday (July 31).
Earlier, the ICT state minister said that all closed social media including Facebook, YouTube will be launched by Wednesday afternoon. He said this in a press conference after a meeting with the delegation of Metro online at the BTRC building in Agargaon of the capital in the morning.
The government sent a letter to Facebook, YouTube and TikTok on July 28 regarding some video content of the quota reform movement. The letter sought a rational explanation from them. At the same time, the representatives were also asked to appear in person at BTRC on July 31.
However, even though Facebook was summoned to appear in person, in the end they did not come to BTRC. Later a meeting was held online with the Mater delegation. In this context, ICT State Minister said, Facebook could not respond quickly due to various limitations. However, they said their fact checking may have errors and they will update their AI soon.

In the meeting, there was a discussion on various contemporary issues including setting up of offices in Bangladesh, taking initiatives to strengthen fact checking to resolve any instability due to miss-information, dis-information.
